A First Look into the Fashion Trends of 2025

As the final celebrations of New Year's Eve wind down, it’s time to look ahead to 2025. With winter in full swing and the buzz of January in the air, the new year brings fresh fashion trends to the forefront. While 2024 gave us an array of social media driven styles—from Scandinavian minimalism to cottage core, and even a revival of early 2000s footwear like Uggs and Birkenstocks—2025 is set to deliver its own line up of wardrobe must-haves.

With new trends on the horizon, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of bold statements and playful nostalgia. Whether you’re embracing playful pastels, sporty chic or country core, there’s something for everyone this year.

As we all know by now, aesthetics rise and fall as quickly as the tides. Here’s what CSP Times predicts will be making waves this year.

Sporty Sneakers

Sporty plimsoll sneakers started gaining traction in summer of 2024, and the trend isn’t slowing down. Classic favourites like Adidas Handballs and Sambas will still be around, but the spotlight is shifting to suede and leather iterations with a sportier edge. Expect to see Adidas Taekwondo—an everyday take on football-boot-style kicks with quirky lip details—making their way into many city girl wardrobes. Suede enthusiasts will still have an array of sporty options, but may well move away from their much-loved Sambas, to brands offering sleek alternatives, like the Puma Speedcat OG and Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66.

East-west Bags

January jumpstarts the annual hunt for the next seasons "it" bags. Last year saw a varying degree of unique styles and shapes enter into the mainstream, with standouts including beaded bags, and of course the winter 2024 obsession with the slouch-style shoulder bag. Yet, whilst we look to the year past, 2025 is ushering in the east-west bag. A modern twist on the classic baguette, this style is defined by its elongated shape, stretching side to side for a chic, minimalist vibe. Often paired with long, slim straps, the east-west bag adds effortless elegance to any outfit.

Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans have been subtly on the rise for some time now, but it seems that 2025 is going to be the year to reintroduce them back into the wardrobe. Fashion icons like Nicola Peltz Beckham, Bella Hadid and Olivia Neill have already embraced the return of this polarising style, with others quickly following suit.

However, for those of us who may not be ready yet to embrace the full skinny jean back to our style repertoire, a functional look we are seeing is a knee high boot over the jean. With the rise in popularity of boots towards the end of 2024, this style is a simple way to bridge the gap between the old and new year. If you’re after a softer reintroduction, narrow-fit bootcut jeans offer the same tailored look of the skinny jean, without embracing a full-on throwback.

Fringe

Fringe is back, blending cowgirl chic with 1970s nostalgia. Thanks to celebrated cinema influences of the past couple of years, we’re seeing the return of fringe embellishments on boots, bags, and belts. Channelling the iconic Daisy Jones boho chic look, fringe adds playful movement and a touch of Western flair to winter wardrobes.

Clutch Bags

Adding to this season’s line up of "it" bags, clutch bags are stepping into the spotlight with a fresh, modern twist. With the similar slouched vibe of winter 2024’s oversized shoulder bags, these larger clutches are increasingly being seen on the streets. Far from the functionally awkward, mismatched party accessories popular in the early 2000's, this new larger breed of clutch bag is designed to be cradled under the entire lower arm, offering both style and spatial practicality.

Currently, neutral shades like black and brown are the go-to choices, as seen on celebrities embracing this chic and understated trend.

Statement Belts

Bold belts have been popular on the market for some time, and 2025 is expected to be no different. Statement belts are here to stay, with oversized buckles stealing the spotlight and attracting attention in any outfit. Whether you’re going for classic leather or edgy, textured designs, a bold belt is the perfect way to tie an outfit together and add a focal point.

Monochrome

Monochrome is having its moment in 2025, with everything from footwear, to hosiery, to jackets, coming together for a seamless and cohesive look. While classic neutrals like browns, blacks, and greys remain staples for creating timeless and sophisticated outfits, celebs and influencers are going bolder.

Rich hues like plums, maroons, and aubergines are taking centre stage in 2025, alongside soft pastels—think yellows, pistachio greens, and sky blues—adding a playful touch to monochromatic dressing. This trend offers endless opportunities to craft fun, coordinated outfits that feel fashionable and fresh in the new year.
