Amalfitana Artisan Pizza Bar Brings Amalfi Coast Delicacies to Hong Kong Shores

Repulse Bay is brimming with an abundance of beachside eats, from the vibrant Sip Song to the well-loved Limewood. With the recent reopenings of beaches across Hong Kong, the family-friendly location is back to its peak occupancy, with many sun-seekers looking for their weekend fix. Nestled within The Pulse, Amalfitana Artisan Pizza Bar stays true to its fresh, doughy goodness namesake—pizza—and serves a rich selection of sharing platters in a casual setting. Ashley Higham dropped by the artisan pizzeria to try the snacks, signature pizza, and a couple of fruity cocktails on a cool Autumn afternoon.

The Space

Sitting in the open-fronted restaurant tiled in turquoise and slate hues, with views of a sandy bay, tall palm trees and colourful hilltop houses, we could be in the Cinque Terre rather than in Hong Kong. Amalfitana is situated in The Pulse in Repulse Bay and is inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Amalfi Coast and its seaside eats. With dog-friendly tables up front, the authentic Italian pizzeria welcomes guests with its friendly staff and open pizza oven.

The Drinks

Amalfitana has comfy indoor and outdoor seating with the choice of traditional tables, high seats, or comfy cushioned sofas. The bar area has separate seating to try the delectable range of cocktails. We opted for two of the specials—the Quando and the Berry Bliss.

The Quando: With Jalapeno-Pineapple Infused Tequilla, Triple Sec, Pechauds Bitter, Fresh Pineapple Juice, and Lime, we could have been sipping on a beach in Tulum rather than in an Italian restaurant in Hong Kong. This drink gave a refreshing twist on the classic margarita, thanks to its jalapeno-pineapple kick.

Berry Bliss: with Svedka, Fresh Berries, Cranberry, Lime, Soda and Simple Syrup, this cocktail special took a fruity flavour with an alcoholic update, topped with berries for a cheeky snack.

The Food

To start we shared the Carpaccio and the signature Tricolore.

The Carpaccio was fresh and crisp with Beef Carpaccio, Rocket, Pear, Walnut and Pecorino Romano but it was the Tricolore that really stole the show.

A tower of Diced Tomatoes, Avocado and Bufala Mozzarella, the Tricolore was unlike an appetiser we’d seen before. The three colours represented the Italian flag and was crisp and moreish—we would go back just for this.

For the main, we tried the Amalfitana signature pizza. With Tomato, Mozzarella, Bufala, Mozzarella, Cherry Tomato, Porcini Mushroom, Parma Ham and Rocket the Amalfitana ticked all the boxes to a classic pizza. Thin yet hearty, crispy yet soft and fluffy, the friendly server recommended we tried the homemade chili oil to make the pizza pop. The chili oil was delicious—we asked if we could buy a bottle however at the moment the secret recipe is available in-house only.

To finish we tried the tiramisu. The tiramisu is the chef’s Italian grandmother’s homemade recipe, comprising Lady Fingers, Mascarpone and Espresso—a magnificent layering artpiece.

Overall

Amalfitana is a pizza heaven nestled in Hong Kong’s very own Repulse Bay beach respite. While the weather is cooler take an affogato to go after your meal and take the new coastline walk finishing at Deep Water Bay.
