MACAU

When it comes to Macau, most people conjure up images of glitz, glamour, and gambling. But for those looking to escape the downtown Vegas-style chaos, there's the refreshingly tasteful Mandarin Oriental Macau. This luxurious hotel offers a breath of fresh air for those seeking a culturally immersive or family-friendly getaway without the noise and crowds. Located on the original Taipa Macau strip, the Mandarin Oriental Macau boasts a plethora of amenities and provides everything you need for a truly relaxing stay.

We check in for a weekend.

Location

There is a certain level of quality and service to expect at every MO property and the hospitality giant’s Macau outpost is no exception. Located just five minutes from the ferry pier, the hotel boasts prime views of the Outer Harbour, Macau Tower and the Nam Van Lakes.

Nestled on the periphery of the illustrious downtown district of Macau, this location boasts convenient access to an array of transportation options, including buses, taxis, and even pedicabs, making it a seamless experience to traverse the city. The Mandarin's enviable position also provides striking views of Nam Van lake and one of three bridges that span the water to Taipa. Adjacent to this luxurious abode is the prestigious One Central mall, a hub of opulence and indulgence. This prime location not only promises luxurious living but also ensures effortless accessibility to public transport. For those looking to test their lucky hands, there's a flurry ofcasino s nearly.

It's an ideal base to explore the city's historic UNESCO world heritage sites. It's 10 minutes away from Macau International Airport, 5 minutes away from Macau Ferry Terminal and 60 minutes away from Hong Kong by ferry. The hotel can arrange limousine transfers upon request for an extra fee.

Design

The hotel is part of a prestigious mix-used complex which includes a residential development, extensive upscale shopping mall and serviced apartments. In terms of its design, Mandarin Oriental Macau is a far cry from its over the top glitzy competitors. Like its sister properties, MO keeps an understated, upscale appeal with its pared-back furnishings and oriental influences with a historic heritage.

Accommodation

There are 213 spacious guestrooms and suites with panoramic views of Macau. Each accommodation features customer-centric technology and sophisticated in-room entertainment systems. We highly recommend the gorgeous Deluxe Suite. These elegant one-bed suites are located between its 13th and 15th floors.

The marble bathroom has a glass-enclosed shower and a large bath next to the window. The suite also boasts a guest powder room and walk-in wardrobe. It's truly the epitome of luxury and is the perfect option for those looking to indulge. It's the second biggest and most lavish accommodation before the presidential suite.

Dining

Mandarin Oriental Macau features four F&B outlets to cater to every palette.

The Lobby Lounge serves Southeast Asian delights, signature afternoon tea and healthy bites. We had the laksa and fried chicken wings with iced tea, for a delightful Singaporean-inspired lunch.

Vida Rica Restaurant, where breakfast is also served daily (with a daily egg tart treat), is an intimate space to wine and dine, with the restaurant serving a delectable mix of both western and Chinese cuisine to cater to different palettes.

For dessert, head to the signature The Mandarin Cake Shop, where a vast range of sweet treats await.

And if you fancy a nightcap, Vida Rica Bar is a hotspot that serves an incredible range of cocktails (which can be personalised upon request) as well as a divine selection of bar snacks - that are worth a second dining trip alone as the food is big enough for dinner.

Wellness

Mandarin Oriental properties have long been synonymous with the pursuit of spa indulgence and holistic well-being, and this sanctuary is no exception. Spanning a lavish 8,900 square feet, this wellness haven boasts an array of eight private treatment rooms, each offering a bespoke menu of rejuvenating therapies that promise to transport guests to a state of pure bliss. From the famed Oriental Qi massage, renowned for its harmonising touch, to the plumping Age Repair facial, every treatment is meticulously crafted to restore and revitalise the body and mind.

For those seeking the ultimate in relaxation, the coveted four-hour Yin and Yang Delight experience beckons, enticing couples with its unrivalled benefits. Housed in the opulent spa suite, this immersive journey allows guests to luxuriate in a private steam shower and indulge in an aromatic bath, ensuring a truly transformative escape. Fitness enthusiasts will delight in the fully-equipped fitness center, while those in search of aquatic serenity can find solace in the outdoor 25-meter swimming pool, offering captivating vistas of the bustling cityscape.

Facilities and service

Mandarin Oriental Macau is a popular option for business travellers and leisure travellers alike. Businesses can book the extensive meeting and banquet venues that can house up to 300 guests.

Whilst it's also popular for couples on romantic weekend trips, Mandarin Oriental is also very family friendly and sees a number of children and parents who may be looking for something less flashy than its hotel counterparts.

Service is top of the top, and no stone is left unturned, from the excellent turn down services to the first-name basis greeting.

Overall

One of the top hotels in the region, this gem offers a less glitzy, more refined alternative to the typical casino-heavy accommodations found throughout Macau. But don't let the hotel's understated elegance fool you—when it comes to pampering guests, the Mandarin Oriental Macau truly goes above and beyond. During my stay, I was blown away by the exceptional service, which left no detail overlooked. From the impeccably appointed room to the well-curated menus at the various on-site restaurants, every aspect of my weekend staycation was flawlessly executed. Whether you're seeking a romantic retreat, a girls' weekend getaway, or simply a little indulgence to break up the daily grind, the Mandarin Oriental Macau is sure to exceed your expectations. So why wait? Book your stay today and experience the ultimate in luxury and refinement.
