Returning to the Grand Hyatt family after a decade, what changes in the global luxury hospitality landscape stand out to you, and how do you plan to evolve Grand Hyatt Hong Kong’s offerings to meet the expectations of today’s sophisticated travellers?

Over the past few years, travel trends and preferences have undergone significant changes. Today, travellers are increasingly drawn to companies that prioritise environmental care. This is where Hyatt shines with our World of Care initiative—an international endeavour dedicated to enhancing care for our planet, people, and communities. Through World of Care, we have bolstered our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies on a global scale. Here at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, we are introducing a range of programs to advance this cause. We are dedicated to intensifying our sustainability efforts across various fronts, such as responsibly sourcing certified sustainable food and amenities, employing technology to reduce food waste, and contributing coffee grounds and oyster shells for recycling. It has been gratifying to attain the EarthCheck Benchmark Bronze Accreditation and receive two ESGBusiness Awards in 2023. Our objective? To provide luxury hospitality that is not only exceptional but also in harmony with the evolving market.

What’s changed in luxury hospitality since you last worked with Hyatt, and how will Grand Hyatt Hong Kong stay ahead?

Besides our efforts mentioned from all aspects in being more conscious about our environment, which luxury travellers care a lot these days. In terms of guest experience, travellers expect a seamless experience both online and offline. In addition to providing an exceptional stay at the hotel, our team is actively investing in online advertising to increase the likelihood of travellers considering booking our hotel. At the same time, the team is managing multiple platforms such as social media instant messages and guest review platforms like TripAdvisor to ensure that pre-stay inquiries and post-stay reviews are promptly addressed.

I am thrilled to return to Grand Hyatt HK for its 35th anniversary this year on 21 November. We take pride in reaching this milestone, demonstrating that the hotel continuously strives to meet guests' expectations. A series of celebrations will be launched on our eShop, social media platforms, and at the hotel. We are excited to invite everyone to join us and celebrate with us in style.

With its prime location on Victoria Harbour, how do you plan to elevate guest experiences beyond just accommodation?

Alongside guest rooms boasting breathtaking views, this hotel provides an array of facilities. This includes the 50-metre outdoor heated swimming pool, voted as the best pool in Hong Kong on multiple platforms. Additionally, the Plateau Spa and gym on the 11th floor is a true urban oasis for relaxation in the city centre. With 12 restaurants and bars on-site, guests rarely leave without enjoying the authentic cuisines offered at the hotel.

With the new developments along the Wanchai harbourfront, we have curated a map for tourists to explore the new Harbour Chill, showcasing modern art installations and pedal boats at the Water Sports & Recreation Precinct.

Additionally, we are introducing the heritage sites and hidden gems in the Old Wan Chai area, including landmarks like the Pawn and Blue House, offering tourists insights into the rich history of Hong Kong.

If you could design your ultimate dream suite at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, what unique features or amenities would it have?

I envision my dream suite as a place to unwind and find peace. With a stunning view like Victoria Harbour, it should promote wellness through sustainable, high-quality amenities, and innovative technologies that enhance convenience while being eco-conscious.

What’s your go-to dish or drink at a hotel bar, and will we see it featured at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong?

Since my last stint at this hotel, the Grand Café's Hainanese chicken rice has always been my favourite. I am delighted to see that my go-to comfort dish remains a signature item and has even evolved! The Hainanese Chicken Rice Cake is now featured on our e-Shop for guests to order. It retains the authentic flavour of chicken rice but is presented in the form of a colourful cake. This savoury creation has gained popularity on social media, drawing in a new wave of customers from younger generations to our hotel.

For those eager to try the delectable creation: the Hainanese Chicken Rice Cake, it’s now available for order on the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong eShop - Grand Café Delicacies | Grand Hyatt Hong Kong eShop (buys.hk).
