Keni Silva On Modelling, Motherhood & Her Upcoming Book, 'Divorce as an Opportunity' – Interview

INTERVIEW

You may know Keni Silva as the model, mother, and reality TV star from The Real Housewives of Orange County – and as the girlfriend of Mohamed Hadid, father of supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid. But beyond the glitz and glamour, Silva is a woman who has faced her share of challenges, including the pain of divorce.

Emerging stronger and more radiant than ever, she’s now channelling her experiences into her upcoming book, Divorce as an Opportunity, set for release on December 12. Through its pages, the style icon aims to inspire readers to embrace growth and new beginnings after the end of a marriage. We sat down with her to discuss motherhood, navigating divorce, and her favourite spots in New York and LA that keep her grounded.

1) How has the modelling world changed since you began?

When I started, the modelling world was much more exclusive and rigid in terms of beauty standards. Today, it has become more inclusive and diverse, embracing different sizes, ages, and ethnicities. Social media has also transformed the industry, giving models a platform to build their own brands and directly connect with audiences. It’s a refreshing shift toward individuality and authenticity.

2) How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is all about being timeless and chic. I gravitate toward classic pieces that exude elegance and sophistication, but I also enjoy incorporating contemporary touches to keep things fresh and fashion-forward. I love items that can stand the test of time – clean lines, neutral tones, and well-tailored fits are staples in my wardrobe. At the same time, I appreciate a pop of boldness, whether it’s through accessories, textures, or a statement piece. For me, style is about feeling confident, comfortable, and effortlessly polished.

3) What are your top 5 favourite fashion brands right now and why?

  2. Saint Laurent – Iconic and edgy sophistication that always feels relevant.

  3. Celine – Effortless and minimal with a modern edge.

  4. Versace – Dramatic, bold, and unapologetically glamorous.

  5. Guest in Residence – The softest, most luxurious cashmere that feels both indulgent and wearable.

  2. Cafe Angelino in LA – This is one of my go-to places for a casual night out with delicious food.

  3. Cipriani Downtown NY – I love the combination of excellent food and a lively atmosphere.

  4. Carbone NY – The ultimate destination for elevated Italian-American dining.

  5. Avra NY – I absolutely love it here for the seafood selection and ambiance.

5) Who are your style inspirations?

I draw inspiration from Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly for their timeless elegance and refined style. Victoria Beckham also inspires me with her sleek, modern sophistication.

6) Where are your top 5 favourite hotels in the world and why?

  1. St. Regis Aspen – A cosy yet luxurious retreat that feels like home.

  2. The Plaza Hotel, New York – Iconic and classic, with a perfect blend of history and opulence.

  3. The Beverly Hills Hotel – Quintessential Hollywood glamour.

  4. Four Seasons Maldives – Exceptional hospitality in the most serene setting imaginable.

  5. Eden Rock, St. Barths – Stunning views, a chic design, and unparalleled service.

7) What has motherhood taught you over the years?

Motherhood has been the most transformative journey of my life. It has taught me what unconditional love truly means – a love so pure and selfless that it transcends any challenge or hardship. It’s shown me that my capacity to love, protect, and nurture is boundless, and it’s given me a deeper understanding of the profound connections we share as human beings.

At the same time, motherhood has revealed an inner strength I never knew I had. It’s taught me resilience in the face of challenges, patience in moments of chaos, and the delicate art of balance as I juggle the many roles I play in life. I’ve learned to live with greater intention, focusing on what truly matters – family, meaningful moments, and the values I want to instill in my children.

8) You’re working on a book about your experience with divorce. How has the book helped you evolve and understand the process better?

Writing this book was incredibly healing for me. It forced me to reflect on my journey, reframe the way I had viewed my own divorce, and embrace the lessons I had learned along the way. Through the process, I realised how much my perspective had shifted – from a place of fear and sadness to one of hope and possibility. I also learned that by helping others, I could heal myself. It’s amazing how transformative it can be to share your story, to be vulnerable, and to offer support to others who are going through similar struggles. Writing this book helped me see how far I’ve come and how much strength I have.

9) What do you hope readers will gain from reading your upcoming book?

I want women to feel empowered. Divorce is undeniably challenging, but it doesn’t define you or have to break you. My message is simple: you have the power to shape your future. With healing, growth, and a mindset shift – from sadness to strength – you can emerge stronger than ever. You’re not alone, and you have everything you need within you to create a beautiful, fulfilling life after divorce. It takes time and effort, but it’s absolutely possible to become a more confident, resilient version of yourself.

10) And finally, what’s next for you? Any exciting projects coming up?

Absolutely! I’m already brainstorming ideas for my next two books, which I’m eager to start writing. I’m also exploring the possibility of launching a podcast to share candid conversations about life, love, and reinvention. On top of that, I’ll be diving into a new fashion and jewellery collaboration that’s close to my heart. Stay tuned!

Keni Silva's book, "Divorce as an Opportunity" will be available on Amazon on December 12, 2024.
