Kyoto Joe’s Autumn Typhoon Shelter Experience – Restaurant Review



If you love seafood, don’t miss out on Kyoto Joe’s limited-time autumn tasting menu “Savour Autumn: A Typhoon Shelter Experience”, available from September 16 to October 31, 2024. The six-course tasting menu is a true celebration of seasonal flavours and ingredients, with a special spotlight on hairy crab. Here’s what you can expect:

The Space

Kyoto Joe’s incredible view is half the experience. With floor-to-ceiling windows across half the restaurant, you have the perfect backdrop to enjoy your meal while soaking up panoramic views of the Hong Kong cityscape. The décor, inspired by the elegance of Kosodo Kimonos from the Heian period, adds an extra layer of charm. Prefer to dine al fresco? The chic terrace seating is nothing short of spectacular and a great space to unwind with a drink.



The Food

We kicked off the menu with a refreshing trio of appetizers that set the stage for the ultimate seafood feast, starting with Hokkaido Crab Meat with a twist – served atop a piece of cucumber-wrapped rock melon. The Eel with Cucumber and Yuzu Vinegar was nicely sweet and tangy, while the Fried Broccoli with Shaved Cheese had a pleasant crunch.



The next course was a Crab Claw Salad, a refreshing dish showcasing delicious high quality produce, and Kyoto Joe’s stellar seasonal Sashimi and Sushi — featuring only the freshest picks of the day.  Just when you think it can’t get better, the Isoyaki Abalone with Braised Radish in Lobster Soup steals the spotlight, with every mouthful of flavourful broth warming the stomach.



For the main event, guests have a choice between the Fried Hairy Crabmeat and Seafood, cooked Typhoon shelter-style with bold, savoury flavours, or a decadent Grilled A4 Kagoshima Ribeye, served with an egg yolk. The decision will be tough, but either way, your taste buds will love it.



Finally, we wrapped up the meal with a delightfully light and fluffy cheesecake crafted by Kyoto Joe’s talented pastry team. After all, every great meal requires a sweet ending.
