PHUKET
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts' first venture into Southeast Asia is the crème-de-la-crème of Phuket properties perched within the serene Emerald Bay.
Opening in November 2017, the property sits on Phuket's southwestern coast and is a mecca for wellness and utter privacy at its finest. The hotelier is internationally renowned for its impeccable facilities and its Thailand outpost (one of two, the other being in Bangkok) serves as a distinguished herald for a truly lavish, tropical holiday.
An hour's drive from the airport, Rosewood Phuket takes you past the bustle of touristy Patong – but its discreet location feels miles away from the crowds. Nestled within lush hillside forest with direct beachfront access, it's a unique setting that embraces contemporary design with traditional Thai culture.
The resort's prime yet secluded position makes it within close proximity of cultural sightseeing, island hopping tours, water activities and even nightlife.
Its spacious jungle grounds lets you get your steps in walking between room, pool and restaurant, but there's also golf buggies available whenever you need a breather. The idyllic swimming pool is split into different sections, from shallow areas for kids to jacuzzi spots, and deeper ends.

Breakfast at Red Sauce is a joy at Rosewood Phuket. Being the island's first wellness-oriented resort, you best believe that its delicious holistic dining is a guarantee – and a visual feast for the eyes too. Its menu draws inspiration from the clean Mediterranean diet and the hotel stays true to its Partners in Provenance programme, to support local farmers and indigenous agriculture in its food sourcing.
A mix of buffet and a la carte, guests can choose an unlimited selection of breakfast delights. Made-to-order dishes are separated into sections with "morning boost", a variety of bite-sized wake-me-up protein balls and granola, the plant-based options which include an artisan cheese platter and veggie skillet, Thai favourites, from double boiled ribs to Phuket dumplings, and eggs in the style you like it – we recommend giving the white eggs souffle with truffle a try though. It's a decadent affair but leaves you feeling satisfied, not overbloated. All savoured over views of the Andaman sea and swimming pool below. With the healthy array of ginger shots and fresh cold-pressed juices, you'll be left feeling reinvigorated for the day ahead.

Meanwhile, Ta Khai is frequented by Phuket's elite – just a glance around the fancy restaurant and its dapper-looking guests will prove so. Set within a traditional Thai hut, the beachfront eatery is run by local chef couple "Uncle" Nun and "Auntie" Yai who serve southern delicacies in a rustic setting. Nearby, guests can also book the private BBQ outdoor booths, where a dedicated Thai chef will barbecue and serve traditional favourites – a unique experience ideal – but not limited to – big groups and families.
There's also the poolside bar and lounge, Mai, and seafood hut, The Shack, for lighter bites. And of course, in-room dining. No request is too large though at the Rosewood, and if you wish for something more bespoke, the hotel can prepare a private affair under the stars – perhaps a perfect "I do" moment if the occasion fits. Guests can test their hand at different cuisines led by onsite experts, from Thai and Italian cooking classes to cocktail making.
Partial Ocean View Pool Pavilion
There are 71 pavillions and villas at Rosewood Phuket, each offering spacious interiors and eco-friendly facilities – and all with a private plunge pool. Designed to capture the essence of a luxury beach residence, its neutral colour palette and modern furnishings make you feel right at home, while the floor-to-ceiling windows offer ample natural light in the day.
We stayed in the Partial Ocean View Pool Pavillion, a 1,399 square-foot abode surrounded by lush tropical jungle. Inside, there's a chic living room that's separated from the bedroom with a divider, cosy outdoor terrace with a plunge pool and a bathroom with its own outdoor standalone bath, which you can request to be prettied-out with petals and all that bubble bath jazz.
Anyone who has experienced Asaya, anywhere in the world, would know the level of indulgence to expect at the hotel group's immersive spa. It's one of the main reasons to make the trip to Rosewood and with Asaya's knowledgable team of wellness experts, guests will find that practically any wellness concern can be addressed to within the immaculate spa grounds.
Each session is individualised based on personal goals, and there's even a variety of dedicated wellness packages to choose from if you so desire.
Those looking for a little R&R in Phuket need look no further than the confines of Rosewood. Besides its tranquil location and five-star service, its plethora of wellness facilities and healthy dining ensure a holistic break that embraces nature and sustainable practices. Whether you're traveling as a family, couple, or solo, its offerings – which extend beyond the hotel too, including island trips, elephant sanctuary visitations and cultural tours – can cater to all.
