BANGKOK

Bangkok isn’t short on luxury hotels, but The Ritz-Carlton’s newest outpost in One Bangkok, the city’s first fully integrated district, sets a different tone. It’s polished but not predictable, deeply rooted in Thai heritage without veering into cliché. At first glance, it’s the kind of hotel you’d expect from the Ritz-Carlton — sophisticated, impeccably run — but spend a little time here, and you’ll notice a thoughtful approach to luxury that feels distinctly modern.

First Impressions

The hotel’s façade, designed by Chicago-based SOM and Thailand’s A49, rises sleek and unassuming against the city skyline. But step inside, and you’re instantly drawn into a space that feels more like a refined residence than a hotel. The lobby sets the tone with moody lighting, curated artworks, and a seamless blend of textures. It’s understated but intentional, the kind of space where every detail feels like it was chosen for a reason. Check-in is smooth, the service polished but never overbearing.

The Room

Our home for the stay was the Amaranth Suite, a 127-square-metre retreat that feels more like a stylish city apartment than a hotel room. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame sweeping views over Lumpini Park, a rare green lung in Bangkok’s dense sprawl. The colour palette leans warm — deep woods, soft neutrals, and textured fabrics that add depth without overwhelming the space.

The bathroom is a standout: a deep soaking tub positioned right against the glass, a rainfall shower, and dual vanities that make getting ready feel like a ritual rather than a routine. The suite also comes with a private terrace, a perfect spot for morning coffee or a quiet moment before heading into the city’s energy.

Dining

For a casual yet refined lunch, Lily’s offers a fresh take on traditional Thai flavours. The focus here is on shareable dishes, designed to encourage a more interactive dining experience.

Think A6 wagyu tartare, hay smoked charcoal grilled chicken, and a beautifully balanced massaman curry slow-cooked to perfection.

At sunset, we made our way to Caleō, the hotel’s stylish bar. Perched above the city with panoramic views, it’s a space that feels effortlessly cool — plush seating, soft lighting, and a cocktail menu that leans into storytelling without being gimmicky.

Drinks here pay homage to Thai culture and ingredients, but in a way that feels elevated rather than thematic. The bartenders here are clearly skilled, striking the right balance between technique and creativity.

Duet by David Toutain is an intimate fine-dining experience that brings the Michelin-starred French chef’s signature style to Bangkok. The restaurant itself is stunning — a glasshouse bathed in soft lighting that shifts as the night progresses. Toutain’s menu is built around seasonal, sustainable ingredients, with a focus on balancing nature and technique. Each dish arrives as a surprise, beautifully plated yet never overworked.

While many hotels treat breakfast as a functional affair, Lily’s makes it an experience. The space is bright and welcoming, with warm wood tones and soft natural light filtering in through expansive windows. The menu strikes the perfect balance between indulgence and health-conscious options, catering to every kind of morning person.

And of course, there’s the coffee — smooth, expertly brewed, and served just how you like it, whether it’s a strong espresso or an oat milk flat white. Paired with the attentive yet unhurried service, breakfast at Lily’s is less of a morning routine and more of a quiet luxury, a moment to settle in before the day unfolds.

The Club Lounge: A Hidden Gem

For those staying in Club-level rooms, The Club Lounge on the 23rd floor is a quiet retreat that adds an extra layer of indulgence. With panoramic views, a dedicated concierge team, and five daily culinary presentations (ranging from breakfast spreads to evening canapés), it’s a seamless escape from the bustle of the city.

The real standout here is the service. From remembering your coffee order after the first day to arranging personalised city recommendations, the staff at The Club Lounge add a level of attentiveness that feels genuinely warm rather than rehearsed.

Final Thoughts

With its mix of contemporary Thai influences, sleek modern design, and signature Ritz-Carlton service, this hotel isn’t just another five-star addition to Bangkok — it’s a benchmark. It strikes a rare balance: exclusive without being stiff, stylish without trying too hard. The spa promises indulgence at its finest, while the fitness centre and swimming pool allows guests to keep up with their workout routines abroad.

In a city known for its contrasts — chaotic yet serene, ancient yet forward-thinking — The Ritz-Carlton Bangkok fits right in. It doesn’t just offer a place to stay; it offers a version of Bangkok where luxury feels effortless and experience is everything.
